Cautious calm in Libya’s Janzour after clashes with medium and heavy weapons west of Tripoli

The Janzour area, west of the capital, Tripoli, witnessed a cautious calm after violent clashes between armed elements with heavy and medium weapons, between the 55th Brigade led by Muammar al-Dhawi of the Stability Support Service and the Fursan Janzour Brigade.

Libyan media indicated that intermittent clashes continued in the vicinity of Bridge 17, Al-Dawadi Junction and Sayyad until the early hours of the morning, with the arrival of forces to support the two warring parties. In the 55th Brigade, by forces affiliated with the deterrence apparatus, accused of murder, kidnapping and extortion a few days ago, which led to the 55th Brigade’s initiative to attack and target the security patrol stationed in an area over which the two sides dispute.

Circulating videos showed the movement of heavy tanks in the streets of Tripoli, amid reports of targeting the West Tripoli power plant, which houses crews belonging to foreign construction companies, while families stuck in the places of clashes sent a distress call to get them out of the area and suspended studies in educational institutions, and the clashes led to damage. Shops and citizens’ homes in the vicinity of the areas of conflict, amid efforts to contain the situation and reports of civilian casualties.
