Alaa Ibrahim, the former Al-Ahly star, expressed his fear that the Gambian would appoint Bakary Gassama as a referee to face Al-Ahly against Wydad in the CAF Champions League final this season.
Ibrahim said, in televised statements: “ES Setif’s level is modest for Al-Ahly, and playing the final match in Morocco for the African Champions League has made Al-Ahly 50% of its chances like Wydad.”
He added, “I am afraid that Bakary Gassama will be appointed as a referee to face Al-Ahly and Wydad in the final of the African Champions League, and if CAF appoints Gassama in the final, it will confirm that CAF directs the championship to Wydad.”
The former Al-Ahly star indicated that Mohamed Abdel-Moneim, Al-Ahly’s defender, needs a “pinch and dent” because of his excessive confidence, and Al-Ahly has technical problems, and we do not want to lose sight of defensive mistakes after overcoming the obstacle of ES Setif in the semi-finals.
He continued, “There is a big difference in the level between the main player and the reserve in Al-Ahly, and Ayman Ashraf is the best alternative to replace Yasser Ibrahim, and Ayman Ashraf is the best in being in the African Champions League final mainly, and Abdel Moneim needs a pinch and den because of the overconfidence.”
Al-Ahly club succeeded in qualifying for the final of the African Champions League for the 15th time in its history, after beating Algeria’s ES Setif 6/2 in the aggregate of the two semi-final matches, and for the third time in a row.
Al-Ahly club fans dream of winning the third title in a row, after winning the first title at the expense of Zamalek in 2020 and South Africa’s Kaizer Chavez in 2021, and Wydad will meet Morocco this year.
